Sphera carbon accounting software
Sphera sells sustainability reporting software as part of a wider platform for operational risk, safety and product stewardship, and adds life-cycle assessment on its own datasets (sphera.com).
This page sets what Sphera says about its sustainability products beside what SECR, UK SRS S2 and the financed-emissions rules require.
We have not tested Sphera and give it no rating.

Sphera describes itself as an operational intelligence platform that unifies risk, safety and sustainability, powered by its own AI and proprietary data.
Its corporate sustainability page describes SpheraCloud Corporate Sustainability as four components: management and reporting; environmental impact calculation; portfolio management for financed emissions; and sustainability performance management.
It describes pre-built disclosure templates aligned to global frameworks, calculations on what it calls DEKRA-verified emission factors, mass-based factors in place of spend-based ones, integration with ERP and CRM systems, and a sector-specific climate specialist working with each customer.
Its LCA for Experts product models product life cycles on a Managed LCA Content database of more than 20,000 datasets, with about 1,000 ready-made models.
Sphera says it has worked in this field for more than 30 years; its home page gives more than 8,400 customers and its corporate sustainability page more than 2,800 global brands.
These are Sphera’s statements about itself.

Sphera’s customer stories come from manufacturing, ingredients and investment management, and its product range runs from hazardous materials and process safety to supply-chain risk.
That suggests a buyer who already runs environment, health and safety or product-stewardship systems and wants sustainability reporting in the same estate.
Its LCA tools serve product teams producing environmental product declarations and eco-design work.
For a UK company the question is which outputs are bound by law: SECR for most large companies, UK SRS for listed ones, and none for product footprints.
The fork is on carbon management software, and the wider category on sustainability reporting software.

Sphera says spend-based data is variable and error-prone, and that its calculations use mass-based emission factors standardised across the organisation.
That is Sphera’s view of method; the GHG Protocol Scope 3 Standard recognises both spend-based and activity-based methods, and UK SRS S2 asks the entity to disclose how it measured each category.
UK SRS S2 requires gross Scope 1, 2 and 3 under the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, location-based Scope 2, and all fifteen Scope 3 categories considered with the included ones disclosed (¶29(a); ¶¶B30–B33).
For UK activity data, the expected factor set is the DESNZ conversion factors for the year in which the activity mostly fell; ask which set Sphera applies to UK electricity and fuel.
For investors and lenders, Sphera’s financed-emissions component would sit in Scope 3 category 15, which UK SRS S2 ¶29A allows to be limited to financed emissions; PCAF’s Part A is now in its third edition (2025).
The Scope 3 categories are set out on Scope 3 under UK SRS, and the climate standard on UK SRS S2.

| Regime | What the rule requires | What Sphera says | Ask to see |
|---|---|---|---|
| SECR | kWh, statutory emissions limbs, an intensity ratio, methodology and comparatives (Sch 7) | “Pre-built disclosure templates aligned to global frameworks”; SECR not named on the pages read (corporate sustainability page) | A SECR template for a UK directors’ report, with each statutory limb |
| UK SRS S2 | Gross Scopes 1–3; location-based Scope 2; the Scope 3 category record (¶29(a); ¶¶B30–B33) | An environmental impact calculation component with mass-based emission factors; UK SRS not named on the pages read | The Scope 2 default, the Scope 3 category record, and which categories use mass-based factors |
| Financed emissions | Category 15; UK SRS S2 ¶29A lets it be limited to financed emissions; PCAF is the industry standard (PCAF) | A “Portfolio Management Financed Emissions” component | Which PCAF edition, and how financed emissions are kept apart from operational ones |
| FCA listing rules | Comply or explain; relief and assurance statements (PS26/19) | Not named on the pages read | The explanation statement for any unmet UK SRS S2 requirement |
| Product footprints | No UK reporting regime requires a product life-cycle assessment; EPDs and product claims follow their own standards | LCA software on a database of 20,000+ datasets, verified by DEKRA (LCA for Experts) | Whether product-level data feeds the corporate Scope 3 inventory, and how double counting is avoided |
Sphera’s pages refer to “global frameworks” without naming them, so each UK row is a question to put to the vendor.
The government’s SECR guidance sets out the directors’ report content; UK SRS is available for voluntary use (DBT guidance), and listed companies in scope of the FCA rules report against it on a comply-or-explain basis from 2027.
Many corporate tools report into CDP; ask whether Sphera does.

Sphera describes transparency and traceability across data, from sources to calculation methodologies, to move through audits faster.
It describes its emission factors and LCA datasets as verified by DEKRA; that is Sphera’s description of its data, not assurance over any customer’s report.
In the UK no company must obtain sustainability assurance; listed companies in scope of the FCA rules state whether they did.

Frequently asked
Questions people ask
What is Sphera?
Sphera describes itself as an operational intelligence platform that brings risk, safety and sustainability into one view.
Its sustainability products include SpheraCloud Corporate Sustainability, for disclosure, emissions calculation, financed emissions and performance tracking, and life-cycle assessment software built on its own datasets.
Is Sphera sustainability reporting software?
By its own description, yes in part.
Sphera’s corporate sustainability page describes centralising sustainability data and automating disclosures with pre-built templates aligned to global frameworks.
It sits inside a wider product family that also covers environment, health and safety, product stewardship and supply-chain risk.
How much does Sphera cost?
Sphera publishes no price for its corporate sustainability or carbon software; its pages invite a demonstration. This site records that as Enterprise level · TBD.
Its LCA for Experts product offers a 45-day free trial download, which is an offer rather than a price.
Does Sphera do carbon accounting?
Sphera describes an environmental impact calculation component that builds an emissions baseline, using mass-based emission factors which, in Sphera’s words, are more accurate than spend-based data.
For UK reporting, ask which factor set is applied to UK activity data and how the Scope 3 categories are recorded.
Does Sphera support SECR and UK SRS?
Neither is named on the Sphera pages read.
Sphera describes disclosure templates aligned to global frameworks; ask to see a SECR section for a UK directors’ report and a UK SRS S2 disclosure with location-based Scope 2 as the default.
Is Sphera a leader in carbon management software?
Verdantix’s own press release for its 2026 Green Quadrant on enterprise carbon management software names Sphera among eight firms in its leading group.
That is Verdantix’s assessment, made by its own method; this site has not tested Sphera and ranks no vendor.
How many customers does Sphera have?
Sphera gives two figures on its own pages: more than 8,400 customers across all industries on its home page, and more than 2,800 global brands helped on its corporate sustainability page.
They appear to count different things; both are Sphera’s own claims.
Has this site tested Sphera?
No. This page describes what Sphera publishes about itself and sets it beside what the rules require. It gives no rating.
